Explore sound, form, and meaning with local poets reading their work. Read one of your own, or share a poem you love!

Our book club will be discussing Kathleen Grissom's The Kitchen House.  The book recounts the story of an indentured servant on a Virginia plantation who finds it increasingly difficult to coexist between the worlds of the white plantation owners and the black slaves with whom she works.

In Memory of Maurice Sendak...

     

May 8, 2012 With the passing of Maurice Sendak, the world of children's literature has been changed forever.  Sendak's wit and imagination has entertained and impacted the minds of children and adults alike for over 50 years.

He was an artistic and talented author and illustrator, who in 1964, won the Caldecott Medal for his best known book, Where the Wild Things Are. He also shared his artistic gifts by illustrating books for other authors, such as Ruth Krauss (A Hole is to Dig) and Else Homelund Minarik (Little Bear books.)

Other books by Sendak include In the Night Kitchen, Bumble-Ardy, Mommy?, and Higglety-Pigglety-Pop!

Maurice Sendak, we will miss you and we will all "roar our terrible roars" in sadness.
