Jacobs' books are always funny, and his newest is no exception. This book follows him as he tries all the latest health fads, from barefoot running to attempting to rid his house of any and all toxins, and the results are hilarious. (He also sticks in some interesting and practical health tidbits, too.) Great fun!

If you have ever wanted to know the physical effects of falling in a geyser or just what a bison will do when you put a baby on its a back to get that great Christmas card picture (!), this book has the answers. This book takes delight in all of the terrible, terrible things that have happened to tourists over the park's history (whose stupidity often rivals the horror of what befalls them). This a a morbid read, but pulpy and entertaining none the less.

I put off reading this book for years. (Who wants to read a book about 24 teenagers who fight each other to the death on live TV?) Well, it turns out all the hoopla is worth it. This book is a great page-turner, complete with cliffhanger chapter endings and and main characters with backbone and heart.

Canadian History for Dummies (Paperback)

Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: For Dummies, 6/2005
Other Editions of this Title
I know what you're probably thinking: A For Dummies book? This book is actually surprisingly well written and also quite interesting. Canada has its own rich and often ignored history, and this book presents it in a entertaining manner, often with a wry smile as the author (who is Canada's answer to Bill Bryson) adds his asides to the mix.

The Remains of the Day (Paperback)

This is one of the ultimates when it comes to funny-sad British stories of repressed love. A pleasure from start to finish.

The exciting and surprisingly violent story recounts the tale of a dog named Buck kidnapped from his sedentary existence in California and thrust into the wilderness during the Yukon Gold Rush. Buck finds himself yielding to the call of the untamed wilderness in a way that will resonate with anyone who loves the outdoors.

The Best of Roald Dahl (Paperback)

$16.95
ISBN-13: 9780679729914
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Vintage, 7/1990
Other Editions of this Title
Roald Dahl is best known for his fantastic and scrumdiddlyumpscious children's books (like "Matilda" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"), but he was also a great short story writer for adults. This collection selects the best of them, all of which display his slightly twisted nature and his wicked sense of humor.

East of Eden: John Steinbeck Centennial Edition (1902-2002) (Hardcover)

By John Steinbeck
$30.00
ISBN-13: 9780670033041
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Viking Adult, 6/2003
This is one classic book that deserves every bit praise that has been heaped on it over the last few decades. This is my favorite Steinbeck novel (and from an author who I think never missed the mark, that is saying something), and is one of the most moving books I have ever read.

The Three Musketeers: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) (Paperback)

By Alexandre Dumas, Richard Pevear, Tom Gauld
$16.00
ISBN-13: 9780143105008
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Penguin Classics, 9/2007
Who say's classics have to be boring? This one is exciting and witty book, right up until the shocking last pages. Great swashbuckling fun!

Anne of Green Gables (Mass Market Paperback)

By L.M. Montgomery
$5.99
ISBN-13: 9780553213133
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Starfire, 4/1982
I have to be honest here--when I picked this book up I expected it to be a decent (albeit terribly girly) children's story about an orphan growing up on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Instead, I ended up staying up late several nights in a row to finish it because I was enjoying it so much! This is a wonderful, warm (and not too girly, just for the record) story with a completely disarming main character that had me laughing out loud on a regular basis.  This was definitely one of the best books I have read in a long time.

The Big Book of Adventure Stories (Paperback)

By Otto Penzler
$25.00
ISBN-13: 9780307474506
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Vintage, 5/2011
I can't vouch for every story in this collection, but one of my all time favorites is in here, and the rest look pretty good. "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell is one of the cleverest, tensest and most exciting stories ever written. It tells the story of a man marooned on an island and the hunt for very unusual prey that follows. The ending is a doozy--at first leaving you going "What? That was it?" until you get it, at which point the story goes from good to positively brilliant.

Hiroshima (Mass Market Paperback)

By John Hersey
$7.95
ISBN-13: 9780679721031
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Vintage, 3/1989
Other Editions of this Title
This book takes the semi-mythical horror of the Hiroshima explosion and makes it real and shockingly immediate. Though this book is quite short, it gets a surprising amount done as it follows the true stories four different people in the aftermath of the disaster. In my opinion, John Hersey is one of the forgotten greats of American Literature, ranking up there with Steinbeck and Hemingway, and his talents are on great display here.

The Thin Man (Paperback)

By Dashiell Hammett
$13.95
ISBN-13: 9780679722632
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Vintage, 7/1989
Other Editions of this Title
Noir and comedy seem unlikely bedfellows, but in this book it turns out to be a marriage made in heaven. Nick and Nora Charles are a sassy, wisecracking husbund-wife detective team investigating a murder. Hammet was a master of the mystery genre and no one can create a better atmosphere of smoke-filled rooms and shady characters.

The Way West (Paperback)

By A. B. Guthrie
$14.00
ISBN-13: 9780618154623
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Mariner Books, 1/2002
Other Editions of this Title
This is a terrific novel from one of Montana's literary giants. Telling the story of a group of settlers making their way across the nation on the Oregon Trail, this book manages to avoid cliche while giving readers exactly what they want from a western: adventure, great scenery and moving portraits of the strong men and women who press on despite difficulties facing them.

The Commitments (Paperback)

By Roddy Doyle
$15.95
ISBN-13: 9780679721741
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Vintage, 7/1989
This is a great book about a group of Dubliners who form, of all things, an Irish soul band! Consistently funny, with a great musical feel and hilarious dialogue.
